Two Deaths Investigated at Eastern Correctional Institution

WESTOVER, Md.- Two inmates are dead after being found unresponsive in the cells Monday night at Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover.

Just after 6:10 p.m. on July 22, a 51-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. According to the state of Maryland, correctional staff immediately began life-saving efforts while fire and rescue staff were called.

The 51-year-old was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Medical staff pronounced him dead.

Just over an hour later at 7:25 p.m., a second inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at ECI. The state says correctional staff began life-saving efforts just like before. The 43-year-old man was also taken to PRMC where medical staff pronounced him dead.

The names of the two men are being held pending notification of the family.

These investigations are ongoing. No foul play is suspected.

The state of Maryland says additional information will be released as it is confirmed.
