LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police arrested a Laurel man involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Friday night, officers responded to a call at Hitch Pond Road near Shiloh Church Road where a white Ford F-150 crashed into a ditch.

When troopers arrived they say the driver, 61-year-old  William D. Smith Sr., had an odor of alcohol that led to their DUI investigation.

During the investigation, police say a computer check showed Smith had two previous DUI convictions.

Responding officers say Smith was traveling too fast for the turn and lost control of his vehicle hitting the ditch.

Smith was charged with 3rd offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failure to have Insurance and driving a vehicle at an unreasonable or imprudent speed, according to police.

According to officers, Smith was released on a $2,100 unsecured bond.
