WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- The exchange of counterfeit money is nothing new, but it's becoming an increasing concern in Worcester County. Worcester police say in recent weeks, they've spotted fake bills.

"Business owners have no idea when they receive that money, they're not checking the money," said Berlin Police Chief Arnold Downing.

John Curry is the general manager of Sunset Grille in West Ocean City, he says his restaurant has received fake bills in the past.  Curry is training his employees, so that never happens again.

"With White Marlin Open week coming up and the influx of business, we're really on the lookout, that's when they would be getting passed through. That's when we're going to be more vigilant."

Downing says big events and holidays is when they see counterfeit money the most. He's now warning the Berlin community how to lookout for the fake bills.

"You have to feel the money, pay attention when you have any type of transaction, and don't take the money until you're ready," Downing said.
