A Record Number Of Boats At Day One Of The White Marlin Open

Posted: Updated:
OCEAN CITY, Md - A record 389 boats chose to use on of their three allotted fishing days this Monday at the 46th annual White Marlin Open. One of those that did not was the Catch 23. That boat is owned by basketball hall of famer Michael Jordan and by the afternoon it was at its temporary home of Sunset Marina.

The ones that did fish created a great amount of activity at the scales located at the Harbor Island Marina off of 14th St. The very first boat of the day had the fish that is leading the tournament after Day One. A 74 pound white marlin by Nathan Walker aboard the Virginia Beach based boat Chasin Tail.

The scales open each day at 4:00 p.m. The Chasin Tail arrived just after 4:30.  Watching the White Marlin Open for the first time was Karen Glynn of Kansas City who is spending the week in Ocean City. "We were over here at 3:30 this afternoon to get a prime front row seat to see all the action," Glynn said. "I have never seen it before it is like party cove here and it is fun to be here."

Each day the boats can have lines in the water from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Michael Jordan's Catch 23 is now eligible to fish in three of the final four days of the tournament. His was one of just 15 that opted out on Monday.
