EASTON, Md.- Authorities say discarded smoking materials are to blame for a Monday afternoon fire that damaged a home in Easton.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. on the rear deck of the two-story home on 509 August St.

It took the Easton Volunteer Fire Department nearly an hour to get the fire under control.

The damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be a little over $30,000. There were no reported injuries.

The fire marshal's office says a smoke alarm was not present in the home, and there was not a fire alarm or sprinkler system.
