NEW YORK- The attorney representing two Worcester County brothers tells WBOC that both have pleaded guilty in a New York Supreme Court to conspiracy.
Basel and Samir Ramadan were arrested last year for a large tobacco smuggling ring based in Ocean City. WBOC was there to see federal agents raid the West Ocean City home in October.
The brothers and a co-conspirator were allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes from Virginia, in New York. Officials say the brothers distributed more than 1.25 million cigarettes, evading nearly $430,000 in taxes.
But the two are no strangers to the law, back in 2013 the Ramadan brothers were arrested and later convicted for a similar operation.
The New York attorney representing the brothers says each would face different amounts of jail time, but both would be under five years.
The Ramadan brothers' sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 26 in Kings County Supreme Court.
