Nearly $400K Grant Announced for Salmon Aquaculture in Cambridge

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- U.S. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) announced Thursday a grant award of nearly $400,000 for established or planned U.S. closed-containment Atlantic salmon aquaculture in Cambridge.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the technology for salmon aquaculture "may face biological, engineering, technological, economical and societal constraints that should be addressed via a fully integrated research, extension, outreach, education and workforce development network. This network will provide broad support, as well as guide future federal investment toward responsibly building the Atlantic salmon aquaculture industry in the US.”

In a statement, Harris said supporting aquaculture is important to grow the economy in Maryland's First District.
