Hundreds of Animals on Delmarva Find Forever Homes Through Clear the Shelters

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del., Families across Delmarva on Saturday participated in the nationwide Clear the Shelters event hosted by the NBC and Telemundo television stations.

Lines were out the door at the Brandywine SPCA with furry friends ready to be adopted. The Brandywine SPCA had 65 dogs and 20 cats available to find a new loving home.

Mario Palias had recently lost a pet, and was ready to open his heart again. He waited until Saturday, because he knew that adoption fees would be waived.

"I had my eyes on him and I actually came a couple of days ago to take a look and I got here early around nine o'clock before you guys opened" says Palias.

Palias's new furry friend Goofy, was one of the many adoption of the day at Georgetown SPCA. Operations manager Chris Farall says this year stands out already.

"This is going to be the biggest turnout of any of the years we have it here. Which just goes to show the community is going to come out to support and give animals that need homes a good home" explains Farall.

Will Walenda just graduated college and is starting a new job soon. He was looking for the "purrfect" addition to his new home.

"But just seeing how many lives have been saved just throughout the day and more and more people are coming in, so its really exciting" mentions Walenda.

Families on Delmarva and across the country together are helping pets from nearly 2,000 shelters find their forever homes.

The Georgetown SPCA had their highest adoption rates yet. From 78 adoptions today, they surpassed last year's number of 54. The total adoption number for all of the 3 Brandywine SPCA's was 304.
