MILFORD, Del.- House by house, Milford City Manager Eric Norenberg is hoping the "Lights-On: Milford Strong" program will make a difference.

"So far, over 300 of the 400 planned installations have been completed," said Norenberg.

The program installs LED porch lights as well as rear-property motion flood lights at eligible properties free of charge.

The effort is a partnership between the City of Milford, Energize Delaware, and HELP Initiative, Inc.

"Half the funding comes from the city's green fund and half is coming from Energize Delaware," said Norenberg.

Norenberg said the program is currently targeting central Milford.

"It's the downtown development district for Milford, areas where we've noticed higher levels of crime," he said.

The goal is to reduce crime and promote investment by new business and neighbors.

The program also promotes energy efficiency.

"The LED bulbs are very energy efficient and the solar lights are solar powered by the sun," said Harold Stafford with HELP Initiative, Inc.

Norenberg said the city is working to bring the program to other parts of the community and making the bulbs available for sale at a discount to neighbors outside the target area.

Anyone interested in the program can contact City Hall or the Milford Police Department.
