Ocean City Jeep Week Beach Crawl 2019

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - This year's Jeep Week has about 1600 Jeeps registered. This annual event welcomes Jeeps and their drivers from across the country to take to the streets and the beach in Ocean City.

Each day kicks off with the Beach Crawl. Jeeps of different models and years lead the way to Ocean City Jeep Week.  "You can let go of the steering wheel and it will follow the tracks right in front of you," Shane Homyack describes driving in the crawl. "You just let it roll," he says.

Homyack drove down from New Jersey for the third year. He was one of about 300 drivers to line up just past 6 a.m. behind Jolly Roger. These drivers aired their tires down to 15psi and drove down the beach from 30th Street to the inlet parking lot.

WRDE covered the Jeep Crawl live for the first time. Four different cameras captured a panoramic view. Click here to watch. Michael Reisinger rode shotgun during that stream to help answer viewers’ questions.

"It gives people the opportunity to be able to do something that is not technically allowed down here the rest of the year," Reisinger explains. "Ocean City Jeep Week is the only event that was able to pull the town together to allow the Jeeps to come onto the beach."

Reisinger is from Jarrettsville, Maryland. He has been coming to Jeep Week since before it Director Brad Hoffman took it over in 2013.
Reisinger says the sand in Maryland is soft and smooth, making it fairly easy to drive on. "It's even better when we have a nice soft breeze coming off the ocean. That's always a plus," he says.
Cheyenne Scraokowski rode in the crawl in her family’s burgundy Jeep. "I got to stick my feet out the door and it was our second time having our doors off the jeep," she says.

The Beach Crawl can be just as exciting for spectators watching from the beach and the pier. Jeep week welcomes those who want to drive and those who just want to watch.

Jeep Week runs through Sunday. Click here for the schedule.
