DSP Announce Additional Charges in Laurel RV Fraud Scheme

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Del. - Authorities say a Salisbury man is facing additional charges in connection with a fraud scheme that involved the buying and selling of motor homes and travel trailers.

According to Delaware State Police, William G. Carey, 58 of Salisbury, was arrested Friday on racketeering and theft related charges. It's in connection to an investigation that started back in Sept. 2018 when someone filed a fraud report. The report was about a sales agreement made with Midway RV & Sales located on Sussex Highway.

Police say Carey was taking in consignment used motor homes and travel trailers and re-selling them. According to DSP, Carey would take the victim’s money to purchase the consigned motor homes and travel trailers, and not pay off the previous liens. Then, police allege Carey would submit falsified sales invoices to the banks and department of motor vehicles.

In April, Carey was charged with theft related charges, such as falsifying business records and defrauding secured creditors.

On Friday, Carey has been additionally charged with organized crime and racketeering as well as theft greater than $100,000. He was arraigned and released on a $155,000 unsecured bail.

DSP says the investigation into this case is ongoing.
