SALISBURY, Md.- There is one day to go until the start of the National Folk Festival in Salisbury. Organizers of the festival are still putting out the call for volunteers. As Hurricane Dorian makes it way up the coast, organizers say this is a rain or shine event.

On Wednesday night the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Glen Avenue in Salisbury held a volunteer orientation.

Organizers say if you want to sign up to volunteer, you still have time. Jennifer Miller is a volunteer who has helped out at the festival for the last two years. She maps out the lay of the land for the festival. It’s another day closer for volunteers like herself setting-up for the festival. Miller says she loves being apart of the transformation every year.

"I love definitely seeing it all come to life. I love to be outdoors and normally I'm indoors. I love supporting the community as a whole,” mentions Miller.

As the clock counts down, to the start of the festival on Friday. Miller says the process of becoming a volunteer is simple.

“This is a huge undertaking and every little bit you can do helps. They are not long time slots. You know it can be one or two or even three hours, if you can volunteer your time” explains Miller.

Volunteer Coordinator Shawna Kearsley says one area they still volunteers in is backstage. Kearsley says you can get an inside look from behind the scenes.

"It's a chance to kind of rub elbows a little bit without intrusion with the artists that are going to be on stage” announces Kearsley.

Organizers of the folk festival are changing the way volunteers and staff members get around this year by having more secured routes for golf carts.

Carl Zwanzig has been a staff member for the festival for the last two years. He works in the engineering department and says this new change for transportation will make people happy.

"This year they came up with some new routes that keep the golf carts outside of the main perimeter of the festival. It will help with going up some alleys or around some things, so we won't have to be driving through people as much,” explains Zwanzig.

As Jennifer Miller drives off to her next task, she is one day closer to seeing the folk festival come to life.

If you’d like to volunteer, there’s still some time. You can sign up at shoregetconnected.org
