People Embrace Folk Festival After Rainy Festival Last Year

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- Last year officials say the 78th National Folk Festival drew nearly 68,000 people to Salisbury despite rainy weather.

This year, for the 79th National Folk Festival they expect those numbers to be much better, considering two of those days were full of sunshine.

Many people who attended the festival this year, like Sandy Gillis said she was taking advantage of the better weather by indulging in the food.

"We came last year and it was still awesome, but we had to duck under the tents a lot which today, we're just out here enjoying the sunshine, eating this sandwich so fast it doesn't even matter if it rains or not," she said as she chowed down on an Italian Sausage.

Nader Hagez is a food vendor from Richmond who drove down both last year and this year. Hagez says last year the rain had a huge impact on his sales.

This weekend's sales were much better, he said.

"This year, people were able to take advantage of his food, which is what the festival is all about," he said. "Uniting people under one umbrella."

"We have the All-American, for those who love American food, and we also have the Greek food, the gyros, we also have the dolmadies, Greek salads, grape leaves, baklava," he said.

Salisbury will remain the host city for the National Folk Festival in 2020.
