Food Bank of Delaware Announces Expanded Catering Services

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del.- The Food Bank of Delaware announced Friday a new way to both feed and educate people living in Delaware.

Through its Delaware Food Works workforce development initiative, the food bank is now providing catering to the public.

The mission of the Delaware Food Works initiative is to eliminate food insecurity through workforce development, social entrepreneurship and small business incubation, according to the food bank.

The catering social enterprise is an extension of the Discover Café, a full-service café enterprise at the Food Bank’s Newark headquarters. The downstate catering business serves as an opportunity to provide hands-on training to students participating in the Food Bank of Delaware's 14-week Culinary School in Milford, and proceeds from catering jobs benefit student scholarships.

Catered options include breakfast and lunch sandwich trays, pastries, bagels, muffins, salads, boxed lunch and desserts. Menus can also be customized, according to the food bank.

“Our catering business enables us to generate revenue for The Culinary School in Milford, while giving our students the experience they need to obtain employment in Delaware’s food service industry,” Food Bank of Delaware Executive Chef Tim Hunter said.
