LEWES, Del.- The Greater Lewes Civic Coalition invites the public to its annual meeting, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday Sept 13th. The meeting is a chance to connect the community with elected officials and discuss issues that impact the First Town in the First State.

"Where are we building and how can our infrastructure support the increased building that's happening," says Board Member Amy Grace, referencing meeting topics. "What is the impact on traffic--which is something that everyone cares about."

Sussex County Councilman I.G. Burton and Lewes Mayor Ted Becker are set to speak at the meeting. Becker says it's a chance to update the community on city projects and Lewes' future.

"I think people need to know construction projects that we are involved in, how we are interfacing with other aspects of government--both DelDOT and the county, and also what projects are going to be impacting them personally," he says. "We are a very active community. We have already issued 22 new house permits for construction in the city this year alone which is a large number for this community."

Burton anticipates discussing the development and infrastructure needs and broaching new solutions.

"I want to make a difference. Development is here and with development come infrastructure needs and the infrastructure is not keeping up with the development needs," he says. "So what are we going to do? Are we going to keep talking about it? Or are we going to change something?"

Grace says climate change and flooding are other issues that will likely be discussed. The meeting is open to the public and starts at 6 p.m. at the Margaret H. Rollins Center in Lewes.
