DOVER, Del.- A Brooklyn, N.Y. man is facing robbery charges after authorities say he attempted to steal more than $2,800 in clothing from the Macy's department store in the Dover Mall late Tuesday afternoon.

Dover police said that shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 20-year-old Joel Cordero and another unknown male suspect were confronted by store security after leaving the store with the merchandise. Police said the suspects fought with the victim, causing minor injuries to the employee.  The unidentified suspect fled in a white Lexus with two other people inside the vehicle.  Cordero was taken into custody on the scene and all of the merchandise was recovered, according to police.

Police said it was later learned that Cordero was also wanted out of New Jersey on similar charges.

Cordero was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy and third-degree assault and ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $5,500 bond. He is also being held on a “Fugitive from Another State” charge for his warrants in New Jersey.
