Dorchester Sheriff, Dog Control on the Hunt for Loose Pigs

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - You've heard the fable of the three little pigs - in Dorchester County on Thursday, there were no sightings of a big, bad wolf, but there was plenty of huffing and puffing as authorities tried to catch three wayward pigs on the run.

Now, they're Dorchester County's most wanted suspects.

With big nets in hand Thursday, animal control officers chased them across neighborhood lawns along Stone Boundary Road. By mid-morning, one pesky piggy evaded capture from officers. Meanwhile, another one captured and sat waiting inside a locked cage.

Sheriff Jim Phillips had to laugh, watching helplessly but hopefully too that traps would catch two remaining pigs using baited dog food. Phillips says it's unclear who the Vietnamese pigs belong to, but it's likely they are pets.

Once they're rounded up, all of the pigs will be quarantined for a few days and, if no one claims them, they will then be put up for adoption.
