Posted: Updated:

FEDERALSBURG, Md.- Two people have been arrested on child neglect and related charges following accusations that they imprisoned a 4-year-old child in a closet in Federalsburg.

Federalsburg police said in a Facebook post Friday that a maintenance man performing work at an area apartment called police when he happened upon a small child being locked away in a closet.

Police responded and arrested Garrie Holland, 32, and Ashley Wolfe, 25, both of Federalsburg.

According to police, the 4-year-old had been forced to stay in the small, dark, barren closet, often urinating and defecating in the confined space. Scratch marks could be viewed on the inside walls, police said.

Police said three other children, all under 6 years of age, were rescued from Holland and Wolfe.

Holland and Wolfe were each charged with eight charges including four counts of neglect, reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, conspiracy to commit false imprisonment and both were held without bail.

The department said its staff is working closely with other government agencies on the investigation as additional charges are pending.
