Del. Driver's License Bribery Scheme Leads to Guilty Pleas

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del.- An employee of the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles and a man who bribed her have pleaded guilty to issuing driver's licenses to people who hadn't earned them.

According to the Department of Justice, Danielle Haldeman, 29, of Greenwood, who worked at the DMV in Georgetown, accepted bribes from 44-year-old Michelet Pouloute of Dover, who served as an interpreter for recent non-English speaking immigrants.

Pouloute would reportedly give Haldeman cash, then she would provide licenses despite the recipients not having proper documentation or testing. The scheme lasted from August to mid-October 2017, prosecutors said.

Each were sentenced by a Superior Court judge to one year of probation and restitution to their victims.

All 41 licenses have been canceled and returned to the DMV.
