Police Make Arrest in Connection with Salon Shooting in Dover

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Police have re-arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting at a salon in Dover after Dover PD say he was accidentally released.

The US Marshals Service arrested 27-year-old Dion Williams in North Carolina Thursday. Authorities said Dion was originally arrested on Sept. 13th for first degree assault, possession of a firearm, and other charges.

It stems from a shooting at Janaid’s Salon on June 1st, 2019. Dover PD said 31-year-old Julius Johnson was also involved in the incident. Johnson was treated for serious injuries that same day but later succumbed to his injuries in July, police said.

Williams was originally arrested on Sept. 13, when he was charged and committed to SCI on an $87,000 cash bond. Dover PD said officers then took him for his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 7, because Williams had an active capias out of that court at the time. Dover PD transferred custody of Williams to the Capitol Police Department.

On September 16th, authorities said a Dover police officer was preparing a press release on the arrest when they learned that Williams had been released. Police said they then learned that a communication error by a Dover police officer led to the release of Williams once his capias was cleared.

That leads to Williams arrest in North Carolina Thursday. He is being held there while awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
