Update: Police Identify Man in Deadly Frankford Bicycle Accident

FRANKFORD, Del. - Delaware State Police have identified the person who died after being hit while riding a bicycle Friday night.

It happened shortly before 9 p.m. on US 113 near Hickory Street. According to police, the cyclist, Tony L. Townsend, of Seaford, and his bike were not equipped with lights and he was wearing dark clothes. A car traveling north failed to see Townsend and the front of the car hit the back of the bike, police said.

Townsend was ejected from his bike. The 62-year-old biker was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he died. 

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old from Seaford, was properly restrained and was not injured in the incident. 

The area was closed for about two and a half hours. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
