Arborists Give Back to Veterans With Free Tree Care

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - Several tree companies and arborists in Sussex County donated their time and services to the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, as part of the Saluting Branches National Day of Service.

Cypress Tree Care, Tri-State Tree Care and Complete Tree Care and several arborists conducted various services such as pruning, tree and stump removals, tree health evaluations, insect and disease treatments and
tree mapping.
Cypress Tree Care supervisor Joe Shoup explained that today’s work covered what could’ve been a financial burden for the cemetery.
"[We’d like] to also give back to the cemetery themselves because it is a free day's worth of free tree care here that would probably cost them multiple thousands of dollars to get done and we're just doing it to give back,” said Shoup.
Among the volunteers was Toby Schlick, a veteran and owner of Complete Tree Care. He said it meant a lot to him that everyone came together to show their support.
"I think it's huge that we can all come together to give back to the community. It makes us feel worthwhile.” said Schlick.
Saluting Branches is a non-profit organization that started in 2015. Since then, volunteers have donated more than 88,000 hours of tree care services, which translates into more than $11,000,000 worth of donated services to veteran cemeteries across the country.
