DOVER, Del.- The price for a hotel stay in Dover will be going up - but not immediately, or all at once.

The Dover City Council on Monday approved a lodging tax of a .5 percent starting at the beginning of the next fiscal year in July 2019.

That rate will increase in 2021 to 1 percent and then 1.5 percent in 2022.

The tax was enabled by legislation passed by state lawmakers this summer at the end of the legislative session.

The move comes at a time when Kent County is considering its own lodging tax with the revenue authorized to go to the DE Turf sports complex near Frederica.
