Community Paints Mural Outside Kaisy Delights in Lewes

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - The Ten Thousand Flowers Project put up a mural, with help from the community, outside of Kaisy Delights on Wednesday.

Tim Gibson is the creator and lead artist of the Ten Thousand Flowers Project. He travels across the country painting murals for free and asks members of the community to join him.

"Most other mural artists, they come into a town for a few months, paint a mural and then leave," said Gibson. "What I like about this is that it's not an artist that does it, it's the actual community that paints the mural themselves."

Nathalie Langer, the owner of Kaisy Delights, is delighted her store hosts this piece.

"I try to grow flowers, but it's a bit hard, but now I have flowers on my wall! It's even better," said Langer.

Anyone from the community can paint a section of the mural. Taylor Little and her boyfriend stopped by while getting breakfast to paint a few flowers of their own.

"That's cool for the kids too, they can come and paint and then years later, come back and see their flower. It's really awesome to leave your mark on something in your town," said Little.

Gibson designs each mural to connect to each other, like a giant jigsaw puzzle. The project is completely fan-funded.
