DOVER, Del.- The Delaware Division of Public Health is continuing its participation in a multi-state investigation into an outbreak of severe pulmonary disease.

As of Wednesday a total of 38 states, including Delaware, have reported multiple cases of lung injury that is associated with the usage of e-cigarette products.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has classified a total of six probable cases of vaping-related lung illnesses under investigation in Delaware.

Of the six probable cases, individuals range from ages 15-45, four are male and two are women, the individuals also reported use of e-cigarette products containing THC and nicotine.

According to DPH, there have been a total of 530 probable or confirmed cases of lung injury that have been associated with the usage of e-cigarettes and vaping products in the United States thus far.

"These illnesses can be life-threatening" DPH director Dr. Karyl Rattay stated.

Since the CDC initial launched its investigation in lung illnesses on the first of August 2019, it has worked closely with the FDA and other public health partners to determine the cause.

DPH strongly encourages the public to not use any e-cigarette products as the investigation continues.
