Kent Island Condo Damaged by Kitchen Fire

STEVENSVILLE, Md.- A kitchen fire heavily damaged a condominium Wednesday evening on Kent Island.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, firefighters from the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department were called to the Kent Cove Condominiums shortly after 8 p.m. for a fire in Unit #3 at 9 Mariners Way.

Investigators said the the fire originated in the kitchen and spread to the rest of the unit and took about 30 minutes to bring under control.

Damage to the unit and its contents is estimated to be about $150,000.

The fire marshal reports the unit had a smoke alarm but it was unknown whether it activated.

No one was hurt and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
