Lane Closure on Route 113 in Millsboro for Bridge Construction

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - There will be shoulder and lane closures on the US 113 southbound bridge in Millsboro in October and November for construction prior to full time lane closure in November.

DelDOT will be replacing concrete encased beams that were installed in 1916. They are replacing the beams with a precast concrete three-sided frame.

Best Cleaners is in the shopping plaza that is next to the bridge. Clerk Mary Mumford said the lane closure will affect her customer traffic.

"I have a lot of new business coming in because other cleaners have closed. So I'm signing up people, new people, every day. And so it's going to affect it," said Mumford.

But one local said the closure doesn't bother him.

"The locals know the back roads more. Traffic piles up on 113 so we try to avoid that, anytime we can," said Justin Klingenschmidt.

Daytime lane and shoulder closures will occur between the week of October 17th and the week of November 17th. From November 3-17, the lane will be closed all day.

A detour route for motorists will be to take a right onto Radish Road, left onto Hickory Hill Road, and a left on Handy Road to return to US 113.

Trucks will have to travel from US 113 southbound to Route 24/Millsboro Highway westbound and then left on Nine Food Road to return to US 113.

A police officer will direct traffic at the intersection of Radish Road and Hickory Hill Road between the hours of 6am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm.

Only the southbound lanes will be affected by the construction.
