SALISBURY, Md. – After nearly a decade of talks, Perdue Farms has announced it will not relocate its Agribusiness Headquarters from Salisbury, Md. to Delmar, Del. The new headquarters in Delmar would have brought 200 corporate jobs along with it.

According to a Perdue spokersperson, the company notified the Delmar town manager this week that it had decided not to move its headquarters. In a statement, Perdue said, in part, “We our constantly reviewing our business and real estate holdings across our company and determined that moving forward was not in our best interest to ensure we operate our business as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

Talks regarding the relocation began in 2010. In November 2015, Perdue announced it had closed on the purchase of a property along Route 13 in Delmar. According to Perdue the property was purchased to build its new expected to be the new headquarters.

The relocation was something Delmar Town Manager Sara Bynum-King was hopeful would materialize.

“Obviously the town is very disappointed with Perdue's decision after years of anticipation of them relocating to Delmar Delaware”, said Bynum-King. “That being said, we certainly recognize that Perdue made a decision that was in the best interest of their business so we have to honor that.”

Not all is lost for the town of Delmar. Perdue announced it will be donating the $279,900 property it purchased to the town. According to Bynum-King, the funding earmarked by the town and state will still be available to build the infrastructure along the Route 13 corridor.
