Baltimore Attorney Asks for 790 ‘Tainted’ Cases to be Tossed

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE (AP)- In an effort to address Baltimore police corruption, a state attorney is asking the court to throw out hundreds of convictions she says have been tainted by discredited officers.

The Baltimore Sun reports State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby asked the courts this week to begin dismissing 790 criminal cases handled by 22 city officers she says cannot be trusted.

Eight officers were found to be former members of Baltimore Police’s Gun Trace Task Force who were convicted of racketeering crimes and sentenced to prison.

Mosby’s office has promised to review thousands of arrests it fears have been comprised by those officers’ investigations.

The paper says lawyers will file 200 cases a week with hearings held each afternoon. A judge will consider the request to erase the bad convictions after 30 days.
