Washington Fires Jay Gruden

WASHINGTON D.C.- The Washington Redskins head coach is out.

ESPN was the first to report the firing early Monday morning. This comes just hours after a devastating loss to the New England Patriots Sunday night, losing 33-7. The Redskins have lost all five of their games so far this season.

NFL reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted after the news saying, the team "will make offensive line coach and assistant head coach Bill Callahan interim coach." Callahan is the former Raiders and Nebraska head coach.

In a statement from the Redskins, the team said, "Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility. Moving forward we are committed to doing all that we can collectively as an organization to turn things around and give our Redskins fans and alumni a team they can be proud of in 2019 and beyond."

A press conference is expected at 1 p.m. this afternoon to discuss the move.
