Milton's Plan for One-Way Streets Sent Back to Committee

Posted: Updated:

MILTON, Del - The town of Milton has sent back for review a plan to change the traffic flow on several of its streets. The decision to return the plan to the town's Street, Sidewalk, and Parks Commission came after a Monday public hearing.

In August, the commission recommended changing Hazzard Street one way toward Chestnut and Manship streets, one way toward Federal, and Sand streets, and one way toward Federal.

One of the concerns discussed during the hearing involved large delivery vehicles operated by drivers attempting to arrive at Dogfish Head Brewery who are not familiar with the town. If they are unaware of the Cave Neck Road truck entrance, placing into GPS the main entrance on Chestnut Street has caused trucks to enter one of the smaller streets with the inability to make the turn onto Chestnut due to its size.

Whatever changes that may result will not impact law enforcement and first responders.

"If there was an emergency we are going to go a down a one-way street the wrong way, if you will, to ensure we get to the emergency situation as quickly as possible and aid anyway we can," Milton Police Chief Robert Longo said.

The earliest a revised plan can be considered is at the Nov. 4 Town Council meeting. The agenda for it has not been finalized. To review the proposal click here
