BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Maryland man injured in a two-vehicle crash in Bridgville has died.

Police said the incident happened at approximately 12:44 p.m. Sunday, Oct, 13, when a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway, east of Oak Road. Troopers said that meantime, a 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup was towing a trailer carrying an amusement park ride and traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway a distance behind the Jetta.

Police said the the operator of the Jetta pulled his vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of Seashore Highway in preparation to make a U-turn. Police said that after coming to a complete stop, the operator of the Jetta attempted the U-turn at the same time the pickup was approaching the location. Police said that as a result, the front of the pickup struck the left side of the Jetta within the eastbound travel lane of Seashore Highway.

Troopers said a rear seat passenger in the Jetta, 25-year-old Joao D. Ferraz, of Rockville, Md., was properly restrained. He was initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Christiana Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, Oct. 14.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
