SALISBURY, Md.- National Coming Out Day this year came with a big surprise. Salisbury PFLAG, an LGBTQ ally organization, announced Salisbury will host its first Pride Parade next year.

The announcement was made after the group re-painted three crosswalks in Downtown Salisbury, rainbow.

"Board members wanted to see the festival locally, versus, you don't have to travel outside of the Salisbury area to go to different festivals," said Janay Mcintosh, a PFLAG member.

But they didn't just bring the parade to Salisbury for convenience. It was an effort to show support to the local LGBTQ community.

"If you're looking at a community and you're deciding 'Is this a place for me?', you're going to be looking for your group. 'Where do I fit in here? Is there something for me?' So the parade signifies that and let's people know you do belong here," said Makya Purnell, a PFLAG member.

Salisbury PFLAG says along with the parade, they're actively planning other events to leave their rainbow stamp on Salisbury. If you want to let the organization know what you want to see at the parade, visit their website and comment on any of their social media.
