Hurlock Police Department Receives Federal Grant

Posted: Updated:

HURLOCK, Md. - Representative Andy Harris announced Friday a grant that has been awarded to the town of Hurlock, which will go towards to the town's police department.

The $12,550 federal grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development. It will allow the police department to purchase a new car for the department.

In a statement, Rep. Harris said: “As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this federal grant to the Hurlock Police Department.  The brave men and women who patrol our streets and keep us safe from crime deserve the tools and transportation required to get the job done.  Our health and safety is a top priority, and as a physician, I particularly appreciate our first-responders and the timely assistance they provide in rural towns on the Eastern Shore.”

According to Harris's office, the funds are administered through the Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants program. The USDA says "the program helps provide funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas."
