Suspect Identified in Stolen Baby Jesus Statue Investigation

Posted: Updated:
OCEAN CITY, Md.- The Ocean City Police Department says a suspect has been identified and charged in connection with an investigation into a baby Jesus statue  that was stolen more than 10 months ago.

Just before the new year, the OCPD asked the public for help in locating a statue stolen from the St. Paul's by the Sea Church in the beach town. The Jesus statue was taken directly from a nativity display.

On Wednesday, OCPD announced through Facebook the main suspect in the case has been identified and charged. According to Public Information Officer Ashley Miller, the suspect has not been located. The suspect was charged by a summons court issued through the District Court commissioner. Miller says the suspect's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

The post said, "Many thanks to our local media and to Ocean City's "Industry" for all of the help with this case. Our community has once again showed that this type of behavior will not be tolerated."

Miller says the statue has not been located as of the timing of the post.

If you have any additional information on the investigation or the whereabouts of the statue, please contact Dfc. Snyder at Csnyder@oceancitymd.gov or (410) 520-5351.
