HARRINGTON, Del.- Harrington police used a K-9 to arrest a man accused of stealing from a Verizon store.

In the early morning hours Thursday, police say they were contacted about burglaries at Verizon stores in the Dover area.

Authorities say they arrested 40-year-old Laron Allen of Fort Washington, Md., for breaking into a Verizon store located on the 17000 block of South DuPont Highway.

Officers say there were able to observe Allen inside the store, and when he was confronted he went out a window, and a foot pursuit ensued.

Officials say that a Harrington police officer deployed his K-9, which was able to take down Allen without incident.

During the investigation, police say they were able to determine that Allen stole over $30,000 worth of items from the Harrington Verizon, and all of the items were recovered.

Police say Allen was transported back to the Harrington Police Department for processing. Authorities also say that EMS crews were requested because on injuries Allen sustained from the K-9 pursuit. Police say he refused to be transported to the hospital.

As the investigation continued, authorities were able to link Allen to burglaries that had occurred earlier in the evening throughout the Dover area.

Police say they charged Allen with wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, third-degree burglary (two counts), possession of burglar tools, theft over $1,500, criminal impersonation, criminal mischief over $1,000 but less than $5,000 and resisting arrest.

Authorities say Allen was also charged with several burglary and related charges from Dover Police Department and Delaware State Police. Arraignment was done through video phone on all charges at Justice of the Peace Court 7.

Allen was then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of secured bond.
