MARYLAND- Maryland State Police have urged people to gather unwanted prescriptions to drop them off at local barracks this weekend in honor of National Drug Take Back Day.

People are asked to clean out their medicine cabinets an collect outdated, expired, or no longer useful prescriptions and take them to the police. This benefits people and the environment. The old prescriptions could possibly get into the wrong hands or drugs could end up contaminating rivers and streams.

All Maryland State Police barracks are 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week drop-off locations for old and unused medications. Secure drug collection boxes, located in the front lobby of each barrack, are easily accessible and in view of the barrack duty officer.  The event is held in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency as the Maryland State Police join other law enforcement agencies across the nation for this effort.

According to MSP, state police barracks have collected over 20,000 pounds of unwanted medications since 2014 during similar drug take back day events.

When the Maple Elementary School Marching Band began, they were the only elementary school marching band in the state. And now they are continuing to receive national attention. Earlier this week, Sydney got a chance to catch to see how the students are preparing for their performance and learn about the achievements they've accomplished so far.
