EASTON, Md.- Talbot County Public Schools announced that a few high school seniors from the district were named as commended students.
Seniors from Easton High School, James Parkinson, and Dillon Prochnicki, as well as St. Michael's Thomas senior, Kyla Mullaney were named as commended students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.
These students received a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their achievements.
The students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test.
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Smyrna police say a lengthy investigation has led to the arrests of two people for human trafficking and prostitution.
Police said that on Monday morning, Dec. 9, detectives executed search warrants on a home in the 100 block of Holly Ridge Drive and at the Kiki Spa, located on East Commerce Street in Smyrna.
Officers took James Walls, 61, and Sha Shen, 64, both of Smyrna, into custody.

In Ocean City, starting in April 2020, parking would be free Monday through Thursday at the inlet parking lot during off season. Rates will go up a dollar a hour for street parking and parking on the lots. Inlet parking will go up 50-cents a hour.
