Sea Witch Head Shows its Age

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- For years, the Sea Witch balloon has led the parade. But many would be surprised to know she's old than the parade itself. But after all the hard work, it's starting to fall apart.

"She's flaking. So, the old style of balloons had more of a silky texture that had a covering on it. That has begun to flake off," said Dewey Beach/Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce President Carol Everhart.

The 60 year old balloon is believed to have flown in a Macy's Day Parade many years ago. But now that it's time for a new one, the Chamber of Commerce needs to get creative.

"First you have to find a company that an actually do it and we did that. And then you have to raise the money to do that," Everhart said.

But the money needed isn't pocket change. A new balloon costs around 20-thousand dollars. But they want to make the change before any accidents happen.

"Over the years we've had one balloon come down. It just came apart in the middle of the parade so it can happen," Everhart said.

Members of the  Dewey Beach/Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce have already started brainstorming how to raise the money, but aren't releasing any details yet.

Salisbury Entrepreneur Creates New Method of Sustainable Energy

Something exciting is happening in Salisbury related to sustainable energy, like wind and solar power, only better. That's according to a local entrepreneur who calls it Dylan Energy. Founder Martin Cain says Dylan Energy is a self-contained system that converts heat into steam, which generates electricity. It's an entirely new method of alternative energy.
