Queen Anne's Co. Motel Damaged by Fire; Electrical Failure Suspected Cause

Posted: Updated:

CENTREVILLE, Md.- An electrical failure in the attic of a motel is believed to have sparked a fire Monday morning in Queen Anne's County.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says a passerby reported the fire shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the motel on Centreville Road owned by Petroleum Market Group.

Fifty firefighters from the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company responded and placed the fire under control in less than an hour.

According to investigators, three tenants were renting three separate units of the motel, but they were not on the premises at the time of the fire.

Additionally, the investigation revealed that no damage occurred in the rented spaces.

Damage to the motel and its contents is estimated to be about $60,000. There were no reported injuries.
