Georgetown Police Department Issue Halloween Safety Tips

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - With just days away from Halloween, police officers want to make sure kids and families have fun celebrating, but most importantly stay safe.

The Georgetown Police Department is taking precautions by handing out glow sticks to parents, as an initiative to increase visibility of the trick-or-treaters, and a way for officers to interact with the families.

A sergeant with the police department emphasizes these three important safety tips:

"Awareness...obviously be aware of your surroundings...interaction...make sure you're communicating with your parents and the kids vice versa...and the final one...when you get home with all this candy make sure that you're inspecting everything," said Sgt. Joel Diaz.

Diaz adds regardless of what the weather is like this Halloween, police will be well positioned to ensure safety for all trick-or-treaters.
