First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Opens in Rehoboth Beach

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- You can now shop for more than just clothes and shoes at the outlets in Rehoboth Beach. Columbia Care opened its first medical marijuana dispensary at the Tanger Outlets.

Organizers of Columbia Care, which also has dispensary locations in Smyrna and Wilmington, say the new Rehoboth Beach location is a testament to the evolution of the overall market and the successful growth of the program. They currently provide pharmaceutical tinctures, capsules, vapes and flowers in a variety of strains, as well as CBD wellness products. Organizers say their goal is to remove the stigma of medical marijuana and to make it more mainstream.

Kylie Blottenberger has been going through chemo treatment for the past seven weeks. She relies on medical marijuana and is happy to see this new location open right in her backyard.

"I am definitely willing to try any other dispensaries because I'm sure they will offer other products. I think that would be cool to have different things to get and try," says Blottenberger.

However, others say this dispensary may not be well-received by others.

"The taboo is certainly there, the misuse of cannabinoids is well known. However, I think the presentation and welcoming atmosphere will have a medical sort of environment. I think that's really helpful with dealing with those perceptions," says Mike Hudson.

The dispensary only provides products to patients who own a medical marijuana card or have a caregiver certification. Columbia Care is now open Monday through Saturday.

The Columbia Care dispensary is the second dispensary in Sussex County. The other dispensary is the First State Compassion in Lewes.

When the Maple Elementary School Marching Band began, they were the only elementary school marching band in the state. And now they are continuing to receive national attention. Earlier this week, Sydney got a chance to catch to see how the students are preparing for their performance and learn about the achievements they've accomplished so far.
