New Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Mainstream Location

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del- When you go shopping at the Tanger Outlets next, you can get clothes, shoes, and now medical marijuana.

Columbia Care opened a store that does not look like the other Tanger Outlet stores. This dispensary, Columbia Care's first in Sussex County, has frosted glass covering the whole entire building to ensure the safety of its customers and facility.

Organizers of Columbia Care, which also has dispensary locations in Smyrna and Wilmington, say the new Rehoboth Beach location is a testament to the evolution of the overall market and the successful growth of the program. They currently provide pharmaceutical tinctures, capsules, vapes and flowers in a variety of strains, as well as CBD wellness products. Organizers say their goal is to remove the stigma of medical marijuana and to make it more mainstream.

"It's creating buzz and everyone wants it definitely to have another option outside of traditional medicine," says Ward.

General Manager Sharice Ward says being in the heart of the outlets was an ideal location.

"We really wanted to get into Sussex County and we thought it was a need to have another dispensary in the area to service our patients," says Ward.

As a medical marijuana patient, you must enter Columbia Care by ringing the door bell, and scanning your medical marijuana card or your caregiver certification. Columbia care employees say it will ensure the safety of the building and safety of their patients.

Another product that is being introduced to patients is CBD oil. Dr. Barrett Morrison, a chiropractor in Salisbury, says CBD has become mainstream due to the federal government removing hemp from the controlled substance act in December 2018. Morrison says CBD is a way to help patients with different health challenges.

Columbia Care is now open to patients Monday through Thursday. This dispensary is the second dispensary in Sussex County. The other dispensary is the First State Compassion in Lewes.

A proposal in Delaware would outlaw homemade "ghost guns," which can't be traced because they don't have serial numbers or are fashioned from parts created with 3-D printers.

A Democrat-led House committee voted to release the bill Wednesday after an hour long public hearing, although its chief sponsor, House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst, said she plans to amend the bill after meeting Tuesday with representatives of the National Rifle Association.
