Series of Rain and Wind Took Delmarva by Storm

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md.- Halloween night was one that many will not forget across Delmarva as Mother nature took its toll with severe winds and rain. People are now cleaning up after a violent storm that shook houses in Berlin and elsewhere.

Many people across Delmarva woke up Friday morning with trees down in their front and backyards.  Several people had pieces of their homes or businesses missing, such as shingles, roofing or shutters. Neighbors were shocked by the severe damage that trees did to so many homes and buildings.

Emily Shrives, who lives in Berlin, says she was afraid to look out at her door.

"I was nervous - I thought I was in a tornado. I was trying to figure out what to do because I live on the second story of a building," says Shrives.

Neighbor Kelly Basset says she has never seen damage like this in the 10 years that she has lived in her home. Basset says the wind sounded like a freight train and she was shocked to see trees uprooted from her property.

"On my house there's shingles off and it's a brand new roof. There's shutters hanging off and the storm took out a whole row of trees behind the house. We used to be able to drive around the pond and now it has  trees down everywhere," says Basset.

WRDE Chief Meteorologist Paul Williams went on air Thursday night at midnight. Paul wanted to warn everyone across Delmarva about the approaching storm.

Basset says she was lucky to have an extra set of hands to clean up the damages.

"My son came from Salisbury to help and then other guys are helping in the area. Everyone is just chipping in and we have been out here since 8:30 a.m. this morning," says Basset.

Neighbors say crews will be cleaning up the damage over the next week.
