CAMBRIDGE, Md.- People around the country will soon by buying their tickets for the movie "Harriet", a feature film depicting the life of abolitionist Harriet Tubman. But, people in Cambridge are getting a first look.

The movie is now showing in select cities across the U.S. before its nationwide release on Nov. 15. Cambridge Premier Cinemas is one of those theaters, and people from all over are coming to see it.

"I've heard of her story ever since I was a kid growing up here and it's just exciting to see that it's on the big screen now," Jamie Stanley of Baltimore said. "That's the purpose of me being here. I could have seen it anywhere. I had to come back home to see it."

Moviegoers said they could not be more excited for the film.

"When the community around the area like Hurlock and Cambridge and stuff like that heard that we were having it, the phones have been ringing of the hook," Aaron Hurley with Cambridge Premier Cinemas said.

Though, the excitement also stems from Tubman's connection to Dorchester County. It's the place where Tubman's story began.

"This is where she was born. This is where she worked," Lisa Green, co-owner of Harriet Tubman Tours, said. "[These are] some of the lands that she actually walked on."

Green saw the movie too. She says she hopes it helps teach others about Tubman's full story.

"So, it peaks the interest of, you know I need to know my history," Green said. "And what we often times tell people is that even if you didn't know your history, it's never too late."

The theater is offering multiple show times every day for those who want to come out to watch "Harriet" in a place rooted in her courageous story.
