PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- A 44-year-old Somerset County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following his conviction of sex abuse of a minor.

Cornelius Brennecke, who was convicted in early September, was sentenced Monday, Nov. 4, by a Somerset County Circuit Court judge.

According to prosecutors,  an investigation revealed that in the spring of 2016, Brennecke lived with a family in Somerset County. Prosecutors said that during that time, Brennecke engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old with whom he resided.

Brennecke originally faced 48 charges but took an Alford plea to the sex abuse of a minor charge. An Alford plea is a guilty plea in which a defendant maintains his or her innocence but admits that the prosecution's evidence would likely result in a guilty verdict if brought to trial.
