Worker at Shore Up Crisfield Head Start Caught on Cam, Now Under Investigation

Posted: Updated:

CRISFIELD, Md.- The Somerset County Sheriff's Office and the Somerset County Department of Social Services have launched an investigation into a worker at Shore Up Crisfield Head Start.

According to police, the employee, was "possibly assaulting" a child at the Head Start center.

This investigation comes on the heels of a viral video that was shared to Facebook by the 3-year-old child's mother, Jessica Brown.

Brown says her daughter has attended the center since she was 18-months-old and the Head Start program, including this worker, knew her child had epilepsy--yet this incident occurred.

In the video obtained by WBOC, the employee is seen grabbing the 3-year-old child roughly by the hair, possibly shaken, and then the child is seen falling to the ground.

Brown says the administration at the Head Start program failed to notify her of the incident. It was not until another worker saw the incident occur and notified Brown after the fact.

Brown says a staff member recorded the video and gave the video to the mother. The mother says the center should have notified her sooner, as the incident took place Oct. 25, and she was not notified until last Friday.

"I plan to seek legal action because she had no business doing that to my child," Brown tells WBOC. "I showed the video to the Crisfield police and the state commissioner."

Brown says her daughter needs speech therapy so she has trouble effectively communicating with adults.

The mother says she wants other parents to know what her child went through.

Officials say based on this information, officials from the sheriff’s office and a social worker from Social Services are investigating. This investigation is ongoing and further details will be provided as they become available.

Shore Up Inc. was not available for further comment on this incident, but says the worker has been fired as a result.
