LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes man for assault and related charges stemming from a fight with his girlfriend.

Troopers were dispatched to the 19000 block of Beaver Dam Road in Lewes around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an assault. When they arrived, they met a 23-year-old woman who said she had been assaulted earlier in the day by her boyfriend, 31-year-old Anthony E. Diorio.

According to the girlfriend, she and Diorio were arguing when Diorio reportedly held her down and prevented her from leaving. Diorio proceeded to strike the woman several time and cut her with a knife, police said.

The woman sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment, police said.

According to police, a computer inquiry revealed that Diorio had a no contact order with the woman.

Diorio was on scene when troopers arrived and was taken into custody without incident.

Police reportedly found approximately four grams of marijuana in Diorio's car.

Diorio was transported back to Troop 7, where he was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, breach of release and possession of marijuana.

He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $31,001 cash bond.
