Is November Too Early for Christmas Lights and Decorations?

Posted: Updated:

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in parts of Sussex County. Christmas decorations and lights are already up in some places. The question on your mind may be, when is it too early to put the Christmas lights and decorations?

Many people throughout Sussex County want to gobble down their Thanksgiving dinner first while others are already dreaming of a white Christmas.

Jude Thorough good is the owner of Past and Present Gift and Collectibles in Millstone. Thorough good says she is ready to deck the halls.

"I'm ready to put up the tree just because I can't wait to see what it's actually going to look like house," explains Thorough good.

However others have a different opinion on the early holiday spirit and say it's a little early.

We are now just 49 days until Santa Claus comes to town. You probably already knew that as wreaths are already set up in Borehole Beach and in downtown Millstone bells are ringing.

David Pruitt says he waits until after he cuts his turkey to get ready for the holiday season.

"Thanksgiving is the last hurray before the Christmas holiday season starts. As a typical guy I don't do any of holiday shopping until that time," says Pruitt.

Some store owners say the sooner the Christmas spirit comes, the better it is for them.

"There is more decorating done at Christmas time and that's why we really enjoy decorating and helping people," says Thorough good.

While there's some strong opinions on when Christmastime should begin, there's is one common thing people agreed on. Many people said no matter what do what makes you happy this holiday season.

"If you want to put them your lights up now, that is fine by me. There are so many people fighting in the world and there is so much hate. I don't understand why we all can't just have a good time," explains Robert Her.

Many retailers have already launched holiday shopping deals. The clock is ticking nationwide and remember there are 6 days fewer between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.
