Delaware Attorney General Addresses Concerns At Sussex County Town Hall

Posted: Updated:
LEWES, Del.- People attended the town hall to address criminal justice reform, contaminated water, the opioid epidemic and other issues in Sussex County.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings hosted her eighth town hall in the first state on Thursday night. People wrote down their questions in hopes of Attorney General Kathy Jennings to give them an answer.

Charlie Clark says he thinks the Attorney General goes out of her way to make sure everyone is heard.

"It has to be good for all people by definition. It has to be inclusive to all people and I see Attorney General Kathy Jennings doing just that," explains Clark.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings, State Senator Ernie Lopez, and Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf focused on promoting public safety throughout Sussex County. Ernie Lopez says it starts in schools to protect our students and our community on a daily basis.

Some people in the town had questions regarding the criminal justice reform. One of the things the Attorney General addressed was the high incarceration rates in the state of Delaware.

"We are incarcerating a lot of people but it hasn't necessarily resulted in a safer fairer world," says Jennings.

However, others voiced their concerns on a 7-11 that could be built in the Angola area. Many believe that this new convenience store could contaminate their water and create traffic.

"I started hearing about the possible water issues and what it could be leaving to our children and grandchildren. I also was concerned about the traffic situation it could bring," explains Anna Maietti.

It is worth nothing that a 7-11 representative told county officials earlier that the store would not contaminate people's water.

Attorney General Jennings stayed after the meeting to continue hearing issues one on one. Jennings says she will look into some of the issues discussed in the meeting.

The Attorney General says this was the last town hall meeting for the season.
